A very beautiful impression on China paper, signed in the plate, with the inscription '1ere epreuve' (first proof) by the hand of the artist in the upper right margin. Our impression is before the extension of the trees along the upper edge. It precedes the only state described by Loÿs Delteil who was not aware of our impression. Impressions of this lithograph are extremely rare. Delteil knew of only 7 or 8 impressions of the final state, of which two are in the collections of the New York Public Library and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, England. We are not aware of any other impression of the first state.
