A superb impression of this important and extremely scarce lithograph on chine collé from the 1884 edition of 50 with the address of Lemercier lower center.

Fisher distinguishes three states of this lithograph: the first state showing the full composition before the letters, the second state with the composition slightly trimmed to the right and still before the letters, and the third state showing the same trimmed composition with the letters, of which the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York has one example.

Unknown to Fisher, our impression with the letters shows the full composition. Fisher knew of only four impressions of the full composition (all before the letters), three of which are in museums (the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana) and one in a private collection. We are not aware of any other impression of the untrimmed composition with the letters.
